DEPTH: THE PARAMETER FOR CALCULATING THE NUMBER OF LED MODULES IN A SIGN

When we design an illuminated sign, in order to quantify the number of LED modules needed, we must know and refer to a fundamental parameter: the DEPTH of our illuminated sign.
From this parameter we can establish the right quantity and the exact distance of application of the LED modules.
We can clearly consider that Depth and Quantity have an Inversely Proportional Relationship: the deeper the sign, the fewer modules we will use; The thinner the sign, the more we will see the number of modules to be used increase.
To facilitate your calculations, soon on our website next to each LED module for sale, you will find the technical data sheet, including the downloadable table that indicates quantity and distance based on the depth parameter, very useful both in the design phase and to get a realistic quote.
For a classic box with a depth between 12 and 15 cm, I recommend the 3 LED module of 0.72 W. If, on the other hand, you exceed 15 cm in depth, I recommend the 1.5 W LED module. If the sign is 12 cm, about 60 pcs per square meter will go.
When we exceed 15 cm in depth, about 40 pcs are used per square meter.
If we lower the depth to 10 cm, it takes about 93 modules per square meter and so on.
As we said, by decreasing the depth, the quantity of modules increases. Because? to obtain a homogeneous light and avoid the risk of finding ourselves with the dreaded “spotty” illuminated sign.

Which module to use to make light tables?

I am often asked this question.
Indoor light tables are widely used products, we see them everywhere.
For example, the illuminated bulletin boards that we find in airports, cinemas, stations, etc. When designing illuminated signs or, as in this case, indoor bulletin boards, going below 8 cm in depth involves having to use a large amount of modules, which obviously implies a significant increase in price, making our product unsellable.
To facilitate the great demand, with my company, I am providing a price list for a product made specifically for indoor bulletin boards, perfect for bulletin boards with tensile cloths, which will start from a minimum depth of 4 cm upwards.
For special needs, the product will be customizable on request.
While you are waiting for this new very useful product to be available on our website, to overcome the problem and find a solution for your designs, I can suggest you to use a product for the double-sided, perimeter mounted.
Although the lighting effect is not optimal, the result obtained will still be very good.
In addition, in the design, construction and sales phase, it will give you the opportunity to contain costs.

The aperture of the lenses above 160°.
Innovation or commercial gimmick?

I would like to take this opportunity to answer this question as well.
If you think that with a LED module with a lens that opens the light cone above 160° you can solve many problems and save money, this is my thought.
Let’s start with a basic concept: the LED light opens its light cone to 120°.
They can equip it with lenses to adapt it to the type of work to be done.
For example, the 38° lenses that squeeze this cone of light are used in LED modules for double-sided signs.
While the 160° lenses, which instead open the cone of light, give us the possibility of using fewer modules for single-sided illuminated signs.
Today we use almost exclusively Modules with lenses, because this allows you to lower the number of Modules needed to carry out projects, thus saving on costs and construction times.
Obviously, our modules are all equipped with a lens, with the exception of the 0.3 W Micro LED module, which is the smallest module on the market in Italy, and for its particular applications it does not require a lens.
Going back to your question.
Personally, I feel wary of manufacturers who indicate lenses above 160° (e.g. 170°180°). Because? For simple reasons: the quantity of modules to be used per square meter does not vary, it is the same as for modules with lenses with a lower aperture.
A larger opening should allow fewer modules to be used.
If the wattage of the module and the quantity of pieces per square meter remain the same, I doubt that it is just a commercial ploy to promote a product not different from those already existing on the market.
Furthermore, although I have visited many manufacturers, none of them has answered my doubts exhaustively and therefore I am wary.
I could not verify the veracity of the convenience.
I like to promote the use of innovative products, but only if they are really innovative, that is, if they bring benefits and improvements to the quality of work.
